Donald Trump has been indicted by a Manhattan grand jury, – the first time in American history that a current or former president has faced criminal charges.
The indictment has been filed under seal and will be announced in the coming days. The charges are not publicly known at this time.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office will reach out to Trump’s attorneys to discuss his surrender to face an arraignment.
The Alleged Crime
The investigation centered on money paid to porn actress Stormy Daniels and former Playboy model Karen McDougal, whom he feared would go public with claims that they had extramarital sexual encounters with him.
The indictment likely stems from allegations that Donald Trump authorized a hush money payment of $130,000 to Stormy Daniels on the eve of the 2016 election, and then falsified business and campaign records in an effort to cover up the pay-off.
